Installing the Generic / Text Printer Driver
From Windows XP or newer
  1. Click Start | Printers and Faxes.
    ( If you do not see Printers and Faxes after you click Start,
        then, click Start | Control Panel | Printers and Faxes.)
  2. On the Printers and Faxes window, double-click Add Printer.
  3. On the Add Printer Wizard window, click Next.
  4. On the Local or Network window, check Local printer attached to this computer
    UN-Check Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer.
    Click Next to continue.
  5. On the Select a Printer Port window,
    select FILE: (Print to File) from the list.
    Click Next to continue.
  6. On the Install Printer Software window,
    click Generic from the Manufacturer pane.
    Click Generic / Text Only from the Printers pane.
    Click Next to continue.
  7. On the Name Your Printer window,
    use the Generic / Text Only printer name in the Printer name: field.
    In the Do you want to use this printer as the default printer field, click No.
    Click Next to continue.
  8. On the Printer Sharing window,
    click Do not share this printer.
    Click Next to continue.
  9. On the Print Test Page window, click No.
    You do not want to print a text page.
    Click Next to continue.
  10. Click Finish to finish adding this printer driver.
  11. If Windows displays the Print to File window, click Cancel.

From Windows 95, 98 ( before XP )
  1. Click Start | Settings | Printers.
  2. On the Printers window, double-click Add Printer.
  3. On the Add Printer Wizard window, click Next.
  4. Click on Local printer, then Click Next.
  5. In the Manufacturers pane, Scroll Down and Click Generic.
  6. In the Printers pane, Click Generic / Text Only. Click Next.
  7. If you see a "Replace existing driver" choice, Click it and press Next.
  8. In the Available ports: window, select FILE: (Creates a file on disk) from the list. Click Next.
  9. Leave Printer name as Generic / Text Only.
  10. Answer No to using this printer as the default printer. Click Next.
  11. On the Print Test Page window, click No.
  12. Click Finish to finish adding this printer driver.
  13. Windows may ask you to insert the Windows CD ROM, if so, do it.
    You may need to press the Browse button and select the Win98 folder on your Windows CD Rom.
